If you’ve ever driven Highway 101 through San Luis Obispo and caught a glimpse of pink walls and gold hearts tucked into the hills, you already know: the Madonna Inn is not your average wedding venue. It’s bold, playful, nostalgic, a little quirky and surprisingly versatile. As a Central Coast California wedding photographer, I’ve learned that the best venues aren’t just beautiful backdrops; they’re places that invite couples to fully be themselves. And the Madonna Inn does that effortlessly. If you’re considering this colorful venue, I’ve got your inspiration covered. No two Madonna Inn weddings are alike!

I’ve photographed Madonna Inn weddings that couldn’t have been more different in style, yet both felt completely at home. That’s the magic of this place. Whether you’re dreaming of something whimsical and emotional or leaning into full-on vintage glam, the Madonna Inn meets you where you are and turns the volume up just enough to make it unforgettable.

A SLO Central Coast Venue That Encourages Personality

The Madonna Inn is known for its iconic aesthetic: vibrant colors, ornate textures, themed rooms, and Old Hollywood flair. But what often surprises couples is how many different wedding experiences it can hold. From intimate garden ceremonies to grand ballroom celebrations, the venue offers a wide range of spaces that feel distinct yet cohesive. You can host a quiet, heartfelt ceremony or a high-energy dance party or both in the same day.

What makes a Madonna Inn wedding special for photography is how immersive it feels. Every corner tells a story. The grounds, the architecture, the interiors—all of it invites curiosity and creativity. It’s a dream for couples who care deeply about atmosphere and attention to detail.

In addition to its visual personality, the Madonna Inn offers seven distinct event spaces. Each showcases its own character and vibe. The vibrant themes make it easy to tailor the experience to your guest count and vision. Couples and guests can stay in one of the 110 themed guest rooms, turning the wedding into a weekend experience. With great dining options, famous Madonna Inn cakes, boutique shopping, spa treatments, and memorable moments, every celebration goes beyond the ceremony.

Guest Rooms that Tell Your Story with Style!

One of the most unique (and honestly underrated) features of a Madonna Inn wedding is how much the guest room you choose can shape the tone of your entire day. These are not your average hotel rooms. Each space is fully themed, immersive, and bursting with personality, which makes even the getting-ready portion of your wedding feel intentional and styled. We had so much fun taking portraits and detail shots in these rooms because they instantly elevate the day’s story and aesthetic. Melly got ready in the iconically beloved Love Nest Room, which enhanced her whimsical, romantic vision.

Samantha chose the Hearts and Flowers Room—a bold, playful complement to her red-and-pink glam. Meanwhile, Josh got ready in the Austrian Room, adding a totally different but equally memorable vibe. With so many rooms to choose from, couples can intentionally select a space that reflects their style and sets the mood from the first moments of the day. It’s one more way the Madonna Inn turns a wedding into a full experience, not just an event.

Melly & Andy: Whimsical, Floral, & Deeply Personal

Melly and Andy’s wedding was one of the most emotional and beautiful days I’ve ever photographed. Both are artists, and their creative fingerprints were everywhere. Andy made their cake toppers by hand (he’s also a tattoo artist and illustrator), and Melly designed all of their paper goods. She’s an art teacher and ceramicist, and that intentionality carried through every part of the day.

Their friends served as florists, creating unique wedding party bouquets that reflected each person’s personality and were the florals that made up Melly’s bouquet. One of my favorite detail choices ever. Melly did her own makeup, adding another layer of intimacy and trust in herself. Nothing felt outsourced or generic. Every detail felt like them.

They chose a traditional first look down the aisle, which made the ceremony even more emotional. Andy spoke Korean for part of his vows, and there wasn’t a dry eye in sight, especially among Melly’s family many of which flew out from Korea. The speeches that followed were equally touching, full of love, humor, and happy tears (enough to float a boat, honestly).

Melly wore a custom-made ceremony dress designed by an Etsy designer. Later, she changed into a bold reception look from Fashion Brand Company in LA. Melly is one of those magnetic brides who is effortlessly calm and confident. After the ceremony, we wandered the grounds for portraits, letting the day unfold naturally. The Madonna Inn’s variety allowed us to transition seamlessly. From soft garden moments to playful, colorful backdrops, we never felt rushed.

Samantha & Josh: Bold, Vintage Glam, & a Total Party

Where Melly and Andy leaned whimsical and floral, Samantha and Josh fully embraced the Madonna Inn’s iconic red-and-white palette. It was such a vibe. Their wedding had a vintage, cutesy, Hollywood-glam feel that leaned into the venue’s bold personality rather than softening it.

Both Samantha and Josh love antiques and vintage details. Josh works in film and TV, and Samantha works in influencer marketing. They actually met on Instagram and had their first date at Din Tai Fung, which somehow feels very on-brand for them. Samantha was especially excited about documenting the day, shooting film, and leaning into her creator instincts.

Josh wore a custom-made shirt designed by a friend, and he rocked it! Meanwhile, Samantha turned heads in a mini Cinq dress paired with a vintage silk veil. The look was playful, fashion-forward, and perfect for the setting. Their wedding felt like a joyful, stylish party from start to finish.

For their gallery, I mixed film and digital photography, incorporating a bit of direct flash inside the Madonna Inn to enhance the drama and romance. The bold interiors practically beg for that kind of treatment—it adds a cinematic quality that feels timeless and fun rather than trendy.

Their wedding was recently featured on Rock n Roll Bride Magazine.
